Company history
Chestertown Natural Foods began as a simple buying cooperative in 1988. Local residents interested in eating better pooled their resources and ordered bulk foods on a bi-weekly basis. Eventually, the cooperative became too big for itself and morphed into Chestertown Natural Foods, owned and operated by Trish and Jim Gruber.
First opened at 101 Spring Street in June of 1992, the little store that could quickly outgrew its allotted space and moved a few blocks to 214 Cannon Street, where it flourished until January of 2007 when it moved to its present location at 303 Cannon Street. Rumor has it that space is already at a premium!
Trish and Jim are proud members of the Kent County Chamber of Commerce, AANC, NPA, and Co-op America.
